CellusorbPetroleum hydrocarbon absorption on water. |
Description
Cellusorb is a 100% cellulose oil and fuel absorbent for use on water. It is biodegradable and produced from recycled waste cellulose materials. Cellusorb is highly oleophilic and will readily attach itself to all forms of hydrocarbons whether in their original state or partially emulsified or dissolved. It will absorb up to 18 times its own weight in oil based products.
Application
Cellusorb can be used in harbours, docks, wharves, marinas, refuelling depots, beaches, bird sanctuaries, reefs or mangrove areas - wherever an oil spill could occur or wash ashore. Cellusorb may be used on its own or in the form of booms, pillows or absorbent mats. It can be spread over a spill surface from the side of vessels, used in high pressure blowers or deployed from low flying aircraft. Unlike most absorbents, Cellusorb will absorb trace water and eliminate sheen. Wind and wave action assists the absorbents ability to wick up hydrocarbons.
Features and Benefits
- Rapid absorption on water – Cellusorb’s rapid wicking action makes the product ideally suited for use in sensitive eco-systems. It is environmentally inert posing no dangers to flora, fauna or aquatic life.
- Super absorbent – only small amounts of Cellusorb are required. The high buoyancy facilitates containment and removal. It is easy to use, safe and lightweight.
- Produced from recycled raw materials – Cellusorb is 100% cellulose, biodegradable, nonabrasive and with the addition of Enretech–1 will biodegrade hydrocarbons.
- Cellusorb is incinerable generating 15,500 BTUs/kg with less than 5% ash.
Recommended Usage Instructions
The protocol for the application of Cellusorb in its simplest form recommends that sufficient amounts of the product be applied to the surface of the spill to completely cover the spill. The spill will be quickly wicked up and skimming of the use of a net can retrieve the Cellusorb. The used material should be disposed of in accordance with local legislation.
If a spill has been washed ashore it is recommended that Enretech–1 be spread over the surface of any rocks or sand that is oil covered.
